The interactive map plugin for WordPress is designed to bring local places and walking routes to life, combining photos with practical navigation. Each map is generated through a simple form that captures route coordinates, numbered markers, and labels, allowing clear information to be added along the way.

The plugin makes it easy to explore landmarks, walking routes, and places of interest in areas such as Oxford and Reading. Each marker can link to detailed descriptions and images, transforming the map into both a navigation tool and a storytelling experience.

Whether you’re uncovering historical sites, following curated walks, or simply exploring at your own pace, the plugin provides a seamless way to connect digital maps with real-world journeys.

What each map provides

Each map provides the following:

  • The route is indicated with a single line.
  • Numbered markers placed along the route provide photos and images of places of interest plus directions.
  • Labelled markers along the route when clicked provide further information about places of interest close to the route.
  • The map also has a dropdown instructions on how to use the map.
  • An accordion control under the map lists all the information provided by the markers which is easier to read if you just want an overview without knowing the exact location.
  • The map shows your current location using GPS, so you can stay on track without worrying about getting lost.

For the Technically Minded

This plugin in based on a javascript mapping library called Leaflet and ACF (Advanced Custom Fields). The blog articles are rendered using PHP to generate HTML and some CSS. The main blog page was created using Kadence’s Advanced Query block.
